Minister of Climate and Environment Michał Kurtyka on the Youth Climate Council

For several years now, we have been witnessing the formation of the next generation of people actively involved in environmental protection, who care about a better future for our planet. We need this fresh perspective in science, business and politics in order to develop in a more sustainable and equitable way.

I am glad that there are so many motivated young people, ready to get involved in environmental protection. I want them to have the opportunity to exchange thoughts on global climate policy guidelines. My job at the Ministry of Climate and Environment is to listen to the concerns of Poles, including the youngest ones.

Thus, I am very happy that so many young and creative people who want to co-create climate policy in our country participated in the recruitment for the first term of the Youth Climate Council. Now we will select 32 members from among the submitted applications, 2 persons from each province.

“Participation in the Youth Climate Council gives those young people, sensitive to the planet’s fate and pro-environmentally committed, an opportunity to have a real impact on the most important decisions on climate protection taken in Poland.

The tasks of the Youth Climate Council will include expressing opinions on matters covered by climate and energy government administration departments, providing opinions on planned policy changes, strategies and legislative changes within the scope of the Minister of Climate and Environment’s competence. Participation in the YCC gives those young people, sensitive to the planet’s fate and pro-environmentally committed, an opportunity to have a real impact on the most important decisions on climate protection taken in Poland. The first official meeting of the First-term Youth Climate Council will take place on September 25, 2020.
